N3XT PHASE MEDIA is a boutique law practice founded by André Bruinsma that focuses on digital media and strategy.
André received his law degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California, and, prior to that, graduated with honors from UC Berkeley. He has trained extensively with the in-house counsel of digital music distributor IODA and also enjoyed an apprenticeship with a San Francisco-based entertainment law sole practitioner before passing CA Bar on his first attempt.
Before law school, André hosted his own radio program at KALX Berkeley, and DJ'd at various San Francisco venues. André was born in San Francisco but spent his childhood in the Netherlands.
André's passion for music started at an early age while he still lived in the Netherlands during his teenage years. In the summer prior to his move back to California, he read an article in a Dutch fanzine about a Bay Area band that was slowly gaining attention in the underground scene. By chance, he saw a listing for that band's performance in a small venue in San Francisco's North Beach district shortly after he moved back to California. That band was Metallica, touring in support of their first album. His love of seeking out and discovering exciting new music has never stopped and was a prime motivator in applying for law school.
Currently, when he is not reading tech blogs, cycling the hills of San Francisco, or discovering new music on SoundCloud, André is advising artists and start-ups on legal matters ranging from intellectual property protection, business formation, distribution strategy, and drafting the appropriate agreement to best protect his clients' interests.
